Ten years ago a water park opened in Rock Island, and the facility held an event to celebrate its birthday and success.

White Water Junction opened its slides and pools in 2003, and on Saturday, June 1, 2013 patrons and employees celebrated its 10th birthday.

The Parks and Recreation Director of Rock Island, William Nelson said the success of the park is due to its location on the hillside at Longview Park, its structure, and railroad theme.

“It’s a fairly large place,” said Nelson. “You’re able to walk up a hill, a path to get on the slide as opposed to climbing a tower.”

At the birthday party patrons got to participate in games and everyone received a free hotdog and a piece of birthday cake.
