Rainfall amounts between 1.5 and nearly six inches were reported by spotters in and around the Quad Cities over the Memorial Day weekend.
Along the Mississippi River, flood warnings were issued at New Boston Lock & Dam 17; at Muscatine; at Gregory Landing; at Keokuk Lock & Dam 19; at Rock Island Lock & Dam 15, at Illinois City Lock & Dam 16; at Keithsburg; at Gladstone Lock & Dam 18 and at Burlington. Those flood warnings were expected to remain in effect along the Mississippi River in our area through the weekend of June 1.
A flood warning was in effect until further notice for the Wapsipinicon River near DeWitt 4S. Flood stage there is 11 feet and the river was at 12.7 feet at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. The river was forecast to rise to 12.8 feet Tuesday. At 12 feet, water affects Old U.S. Highway 61 near the river and property near the Old U.S. Highway 61 bridge.
A flood warning was also in effect until Friday evening for the Wapsipinicon River near Anamosa Shaw Road, where the water was continuing to rise. Minor flooding was forecast, as the river was expected to rise above the 14-foot flood stage there Tuesday evening.
Flood warnings were issued along the Skunk River at Augusta and at Sigourney. At Sigourney, major flooding was occurring and the river was expected to reach a near-record crest of about 25.2 feet Tuesday. Flood stage there is 16 feet.
The threat of flash flooding remains possible in and around the Quad Cities, prompting flood watches to remain in effect through Tuesday evening for all counties in the WQAD viewing area.
The National Weather Service reported rainfall in far southern LaSalle County in excess of two inches Sunday night. Three to four inches of rainfall was reported in Livingston County.
A trained spotter reported 5.5 inches of rain fell between Saturday, May 25 and Monday, May 27 in Davenport near Kimberly and Pine. Another spotter reported 5.8 inches of rain had fallen during that same period of time just east of Walcott, Iowa.
A trained spotter reported five inches of rain fell between Saturday and Monday near the Rock Island County Fairgrounds.
A trained spotter reported 3.95 inches of rain had fallen in Cambridge, Illinois between May 25 and May 28. The Henry County, Illinois emergency manager reported three inches of rain received by Sunday, May 27 had flooded basements of homes in Galva.
A weather observer reported Tuesday, May 28 that 1.52 inches of rain fell in 24 hours in Hancock County, Illinois.
