As an annual event before Memorial Day a service is held to honor and remember those who served in years past.

On Saturday, May 25 at the Hero Street Monument in Silvis, Illinois citizens, members of the Patriot Guard, U.S. Representative Cherie Bustos and others came to recognize servicemen and women.

Ride Captain for the Patriot Guard of Iowa and Illinois, Fred Lue said the event honors veterans and people who passed-on while serving in WWII and other wars.

“It’s just an honor for the Patriot Guard to be here to honor those who have given their all,” said Lue.

The Hero Street Monument is located within Hero Street Memorial Park, on Hero Street in Silvis. The street is dedicated to eight Silvis residents who fought in WWII and the Korean War and made the ultimate sacrifice serving their country.
