A group of about a dozen volunteers from the Quad Cities arrived in Moore, Oklahoma late Thursday, May 23rd, 2013. They started their journey that morning, a convoy with four trailers full of donated food and supplies for a community devastated by a powerful tornado Monday.
"I think someone calculated that we have 52 feet of food," Pastor Tony Liston joked. "That's a long way."
The donations came through an all-day drive at the Adventure Christian Community Church in Davenport on Wednesday, May 22nd, 2013.. They asked for frozen foods like hamburgers and hot dogs to serve to law enforcement, volunteers and families in Moore.
The group met up with Steven Earp from Elevate Church in Oklahoma City and presented him with a generous donation, a check for more than $100,000.
"I don't know that I have ever held a check that big," Earp said, overwhelmed. But he says that money will be a long way towards helping people in Moore who've lost everything.
"It's people who have needs immediately, before the big agencies get to town. Someone needs gas money to get to work. Or toiletries and clothing," Earp explained.
