Oosthuizen commits to 2013 John Deere Classic

Former British Open champion Louis Oosthuizen says he will join the field of players at this year’s John Deere Classic.

Former British Open champion Louis Oosthuizen says he will join the field of players at this year’s John Deere Classic.

Oosthuizen will have three generations of his family from South Africa to cheer him on as they all travel to the Quad Cities for the 43rd Annual John Deere Classic, set for July 8 to 14 at TPC Deere Run in Silvis.

This will be the second time in three years Oosthuizen will compete at the JDC tournament.

“The John Deere Classic is very excited to welcome back Louis Oosthuizen to TPC Deere Run,” said John Deere Classic tournament director Clair Peterson. “Not only is Louis a world-class player, he grew up on a farm and has the kind of emotional connection and loyalty to John Deere and its products that millions of farmers around the world have experienced over the last 175 years.”

Peterson said Oosthuizen might not have competed in the JDC since it is held the week before the British Open; but the QC-based tournament will again run a charter flight this year that departs for Scotland after JDC play finishes Sunday night.

Peterson says that charter has greatly improved the field since they began offering it six years ago.

Oosthuizen will be joined in the Quad Cities by his pregnant wife, Nel-Mare, their two daughters, and Louis’ and Nel’s fathers.
