Residents in Clinton can now feel safer as they head to the river front for an evening stroll or morning bike ride.  The city and the police department worked together to install a dozen cameras along the river front bike path.

Clinton resident Bob Bolen says he is proud of the river front and is happy to know they have been installed.

“It makes me feel pretty good,” Bolen says.  “We walk our dog up here often and we have kids that come and here on their bikes.  The cameras let me know that there’s people looking and hopefully people are aware of the cameras so it’s an incentive for people to be doing the right thing.”

The cameras were installed after recent issues with increased crime and vandalism.  It was reasons like this that resident Maggie Fink said she stopped coming to the bike path.

“It used to be very, it brought out a lot of fear,” Maggie tells us.  “I stopped coming up here because I felt more and more uncomfortable.”

Captain Bill Greenwalt from the Clinton Police Department says the cameras were put in place to rid residents of those feelings.  They can now know that even when the police aren’t riding by, activity can still be monitored.

It’s that added attention that makes the bike path again, the perfect place for Maggie and her grandson Steven to enjoy.

“It’s nice to have that safety back in the community,” Maggie says.

The cameras are up and running and recording at all times.  Soon, the police department will have the ability to not only view the cameras from the station but their patrol cars as well.
