A suspicious letter in the mailroom resulted in the evacuation of part of Mayflower Hall on the campus of the University of Iowa in Iowa City.
A spokesman for the university said a letter leaking a white, powdery substance was discovered in the hall’s mailroom just before 2 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2013.
The spokesman said they evacuated and isolated the mailroom and front desk areas of the building. Residents were allowed to remain in the building.
Johnson County hazardous materials crew and a postal inspector responded to the incident.
No injuries were immediately reported.
