MidAmerican Energy customers in Illinois have reportedly been complaining of recent robocalls which might be connected to a scam to get your private information.

Automated messages on the calls claim to be from Ameren, another utility provider in Illinois, according to MidAmerican Energy Company media relations manager Tina Potthoff.

“In some cases, the message states Ameren can help customers save money on their utility bills,” Potthoff said.  “MidAmerican Energy wants its customers to know that there are no alternative retail electric suppliers registered to solicit MidAmerican Energy customers in Illinois.”

The calls could be from someone trying to get your personal information.

Customers should not give account information, personal information or credit card numbers to suspicious callers.

If you are a MidAmerican Energy customer and you receive a suspicious call, email or mail offer from a person or company, you are encouraged to notify authorities and call MidAmerican Energy at 1-888-427-5632 to report the incident.

Potthoff said MidAmerican was working with Ameren, the state and local authorities to identify the source of the calls.
