The Army Corps of Engineers planned to close several locks in our area because of high water, bringing barge traffic to a standstill on the Mississippi River.

“If they close, it is too early to tell how long they will be out as it will depend on additional rainfall and how fast the river recedes,” said Ron Fournier, corporate communications chief for the corps.

The corps projected these closure dates for locks along the Mississippi River:

Lock & Dam 15 was forecast to close Sunday, April 21, 2013.

Lock & Dam 16 was expected to close Friday, April 19, 2013.

Lock & Dam 17 was expected to close Thursday, April 18, 2013.

Lock & Dam 18 was expected to close Friday, April 19, 2013.

Lock & Dam 19 was expected to close Friday, April 19, 2013.

Lock & Dam 20 was expected to close Thursday, April 18, 2013.

Lock & Dam 21 was expected to close Thursday, April 18, 2013.

Lock & Dam 22 was expected to close Thursday, April 18, 2013.
