Davenport Police released the identity of the driver killed when his car collided head-on with an ambulance Thursday, April 11, 2013.

Skylar Kraft, 18, of Blue Grass, Iowa was driving a 2001 Hyundai Tiburon when his car crossed the center line and struck a Medic ambulance head-on at about 6:30 a.m.   Kraft was the only occupant of his car.

Kraft was a student at Davenport West High School.

Classmates said Skylar was about to graduate and “had his whole life ahead of him.”

The ambulance was transporting a patient but was running non-emergency, without lights or sirens in use.  Police said the two ambulance employees and one patient aboard the ambulance were not injured in the crash.

The lead investigator in the case said there were no evidence at all to support abundant rumors about the crash possibly being caused by texting while driving.  The exact cause of the crash remained under investigation.
