More drama for a city employee in Dixon, as a special city council meeting is scheduled for Thursday after another city employee allegedly used city funds for personal use.

Mayor Jim Burke told Sauk Valley earlier this week that city engineer Shawn Ortgiesen was placed on paid leave after allegedly racking up more than $13,000 in personal expenses on a city issued credit card.

The purchases date back to April of 2007. He has paid back nearly five thousand dollars.

In a meeting at 1pm Thursday, commissioners will take public comment then have a closed session.

At the suggestion of Wipfli, the city's accounting firm, Burke recently asked city officials to review current city fiscal practices and policies, including credit card use.

In the course of reviewing historical use of credit cards by department heads over the past few years, it was discovered Ortgiesen had, on occasion, used the card for personal expenses, the release said.

Ortgiesen is also Dixon’s director of personnel and public works.
