The Coal Valley fire chief credits a working smoke detector for helping a woman escape fire that destroyed her home.

The Coal Valley fire chief credits a working smoke detector for helping a woman escape fire that destroyed her home.

The fire was reported at a mobile home in the 1700 block of West 4th Avenue just after 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2013.

Firefighters said the trailer was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.  Extra help came from Colona and Orion fire departments.

The fire reportedly started in one trailer and then spread to a neighboring mobile home.   At least one mobile home was declared a total loss.

The homeowner got out of the trailer before firefighters arrived.

No injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire was not yet released.
