Amtrak sees growth in ridership

The Amtrak has seen an increase in riders over the last six months.

The Amtrak has seen an increase in riders over the last six months.

According to a spokesperson from the railroad, March of this year set the record for the single best month in the history of Amtrak. Ridership hit an all-time high.

October and December of 2012 and January of 2013 also set individual monthly records.

Ridership was also up in the Chicago-Quincy corridor that passes through Galesburg.

Amtrak President and CEO, Joe Boardman said that the growth across the country has reinforced the railroad’s need to support intercity passenger rail services and the need to develop new ones.

The route traveling from Chicago to Moline is scheduled to be ready and running by the end of 2015.
