A Peoria-based manufacturer announced they will be cutting almost 500 jobs.

Caterpillar job cuts are set to take effect in 60 days, meaning 11-percent of CAT’s workers in Decatur, Illinois will lose their jobs.

A spokesperson from the company said the cuts are because of a worldwide drop in demands.

Decatur hit a 13-percent unemployment rate in January.
