(CNN) — Thanks to the spate of reports that erupted last week, we’ve all been mentally planning for Barbara Walters to announce her retirement.

But when “The View” returned on Monday, the respected news personality did no such thing.

Whoopi Goldberg, who joked that Walters is the only thing she’s heard about over the past two weeks, opened the hour-long daytime show by asking her co-host to set the record straight.

“The point is, nothing is going on,” Walters said, going on to acknowledge that there were several reports concluding that she was retiring from ABC in 2014.

As CNN’s Alan Duke reported, outlets such as Deadline.com suggested that the plan is for Walters to announce her retirement in May, which would allow ABC a year to pay tribute to her influential career before she steps down the following spring.

But on Monday, Walters reiterated that there hasn’t been a comment on the reports, adding that there was an assumption she’s have big news as “The View” returned from a two-week hiatus.

“The paparazzi were outside of my home,” the 83-year-old journalist said. “However, I have no announcement to make. But I do want to say that if and when I might have an announcement to make I will do it on this program, I promise. And the paparazzi guys, you will be the last to know.”
