Sixth graders from a Waverly, Iowa school will tour the governor’s office and Terrace Hill after their tour of the White House was cancelled.

Students from St. Paul’s Lutheran School posted a video on Facebook pleading for the opportunity to tour the White House during their scheduled visit to Washington, D.C. March 16, 2013.

Public tours of the White House were halted as of March 9 in response to budget cuts for the sequester.

Iowa Governor Terry Branstad announced Mach 21, 2013 that he will give those students a tour of Terrace hill and a tour of the governor’s office.

“I am pleased the students from St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Waverly will be able to visit Terrace Hill and the State Capitol,” said Branstad. “Just like in Washington, our Legislature is split among political parties, but we are still able to work together to better our state. I was disappointed to learn The White House canceled the students’ tour, but I hope a tour of Terrace Hill and the governor’s office will be a small consolation.”

The students will take their tour Thursday, March 28.
