Drive-by shooting suspect arrested during a traffic stop

Five people who were stopped for speeding are now being held in the Knox County Jail; one of them wanted in connection with a drive-by shooting.

According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Department, around 3 a.m. Sunday, March 3, a deputy clocked a vehicle traveling at 70 mph in a 55 mph zone of the 2100 block on Highway 34. The deputy stopped the car, and claimed the scent of burning marijuana was coming from the inside. The deputy ordered the occupants out of the vehicle, which was then searched.

The deputy reportedly found a .40 loaded semi automatic handgun and a .22 fully loaded revolver on the floor under the passenger seat.

Police say they charged the driver, Justin J. Allen, 24, with driving on a suspended driver’s license.

Police also say Calvin L. Allen, 35, has a hold placed on him by Warren County for his alleged involvement in a drive-by shooting in Monmouth, Ill.

Donnell Torrence, 34, Eric L. Atkins, 27, and Crishawn D. George, 29, were also arrested.

All five occupants have been charged with felon in possession of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon. The suspects are awaiting court appearances.
