AAA's fuel report shows that gas prices have increased 40 cents on the Iowa side of the Quad Cities and 39 cents on the Illinois side of the Quad Cities this past month.

The average price for a gallon of gas on the Iowa side of the Quad Cities is $3.51 while the average price on the Illinois side of the Quad Cities is $3.66 a gallon. Experts say that crude oil prices and refinery shutdowns have led to the increase.

"I think it's good that gas prices are going up because it forces us to figure out what we're going to do," one resident told News Eight. "These gas prices aren't going to go lower. They're only going to get higher, so it forces us to figure out what to do."

A recent Lundberg survey showed that prices rose for the seventh straight week Friday. Currently, AAA says the national average for a regular price of gas is $3.59 a gallon.

In Chicago, the average price for a gallon of gas is now $4.05 inside the city limits. AAA's report shows that Chicago's average price of gas has increased eight cents from where it was a week ago.
