The trail and park at Meyers Lake will be renamed in memory of two Iowa girls whose bodies were found months after they vanished from the area in July 2012.

Lyric Cook Morrissey and Elizabeth Collins were last seen riding bicycles July 13, 2012 in Evansdale, Iowa.   Less than a week later, volunteers searching for the girls found their bicycles and a purse parked along the trail near Meyers Lake.

A search of the 25-acre lake turned up nothing, and authorities eventually said they believed that the cousins had been abducted.  Hunters found the girls’ bodies December 5, 2012 in a wooded area in Bremer County, Iowa.

Evansdale officials will honor the memory of the girls by renaming the park next to Meyers Lake.  It is now known as “Angels’ Park.”

The trail around the lake was renamed “Trail of Angels.”

The City of Evansdale also declared July 13 as Lyric and Elizabeth Day.
