A horse ranch owned by former Dixon comptroller Rita Crudwell was sold to her nephew for more than $1.1 million.
SaukValley.com reported the ranch at 1556 Red Brick Road was sold to Brenda and Rick Humphrey Jr. for $1,134,375. U.S. Marshals reportedly confirmed it was the highest offer submitted for the property.
The property was reportedly last assessed in 2011. The assessed value then was $142,699. Crundwell reportedly paid $270,000 for the property when she bought it from her brother.
Rick Humphrey is Crundwell’s nephew. He also owns Affordable Waste, a waste management business based in Dixon.
Federal authorities seized the ranch as part of the collection of Crundwell’s property sold to pay restitution for the $53 million she was charged with embezzling from the City of Dixon.
The sale of the ranch, which closed Friday, February 1, 2013, keeps the 88.7-acre property in the Humphrey family which has owned the property since the 1970s.
The couple plans to expand their cattle business, Humphrey Show Cattle, there.
Sales of three more properties Crundwell owned are expected to close by the end of February.
Rita Crundwell has a sentencing hearing scheduled for February 14, 2013 in federal court.
