Many students eager to get to school had to brave the cold temperatures Friday morning, but now third graders at Earl Hanson Elementary can do so with new hats and gloves.

Members of Peoples’ Missionary Baptist Church in Rock Island started a community service project and wanted to reach out to area kids.  They chose the third graders today at Earl Hanson Elementary School and surprised each of them with a new pair of hats and gloves.

The students were very excited and for some, the gift will make all the difference on these extremely cold mornings.

“I have never had a hat before and the gloves will help me in the snow,” one student says.

“They will keep me cozy and warm,” another says.

The women from the church say this is their first project and plan to do it again.
