An East Moline man has begun his term serving on the state’s Municipal Retirement Fund board of trustees.

Jeffrey Stulir, is one of three employee trustees elected to serve on the eight-member board.  He began his three-year term on the board January 1, 2013, after serving as an appointed employee trustee to fill a seat vacated by a retiring employee trustee.

The IMRF board oversees the second-largest public pension fund in Illinois, administering retirement, disability and death benefits for about 175,000 active members and 100,000 retirees.  The IMRF receives no state funding.

“As a current employee who has been enrolled in IMRF for more than 20 years, Jeff understands the benefits of a defined benefit public pension plan and the fund’s highly diversified, long-term investment portfolio,” said IMRF Executive Director Louis W. Kosiba. “His leadership and strong community involvement will serve us well as we continue to focus on locally funded, financially sound management to provide a sustainable retirement income for public workers who serve local units of government.”

Stulir is an alderman representing East Moline’s 3rd Ward, and he has been an East Moline alderman since 2009.  Before that, he was a Moline alderman for four years.  He served as a correctional officer for the Rock Island County Sheriff’s Office for nearly 20 years.
