Davenport Public Works issued a Snow Emergency Tuesday night in preparation for Wednesday's snow.
As previously reported, The NWS issued a winter storm warning Tuesday, and it is in effect from 1 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday for Dubuque, Jones, Jackson, Cedar, Clinton, Jo Daviess and Stephenson counties. Davenport Public Works was not able to pre-treat any of its city streets Tuesday because of the rain that came down all day.
The city says its crews pay special attention to places like Spring Street. That's because water flows down each of its hills and sits at intersections like Spring Street and Kirkwood.
"We also tend to pay attention to those streets that are not going to see a lot of sunlight," Davenport Public Works Director Mike Clarke said. "Those will tend to thaw out a lot slower."
Drivers we talked to Tuesday say they have already changed their plans in preparation for the snow that's supposed to hit Wednesday. Some residents are worried about standing water freezing because of the cold temperatures.
"If we're supposed to get two inches, four inches, six inches, that's just no fun at all," Rock Island resident Jim Wilson said. "If it gets cold enough, quick enough, and fast enough, that's when it gets really bad."
During a Snow Emergency, parking is prohibited at posted snow routes. It says that cars parked along a snow route are subject to towing.
