A local ob/gyn practicing in Clinton, Moline, Silvis and Morrison is facing charges of professional incompetence, unethical conduct, fraud and deception.

The Iowa Board of Medicine says Steven Breaux, M.D., has a hearing scheduled in April after numerous complaints were filed against him.   The board filed a statement of charges against Breaux January 11, 2013.

Breaux is accused of improperly prescribing medication, failure to provide appropriate patient treatment and treating nurses in a degrading manner.

As a result of his alleged conduct, Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, Iowa suspended his privileges there February 2, 2011 but Breaux reportedly did not tell patients or state officials about his loss of hospital privileges.

Breaux’s Iowa medical license is currently active and set to expire January 1, 2014.

Online records show Breaux has local practice affiliations in Moline and in Silvis.  The State of Illinois shows he also practices in Morrison.

A spokesperson for Morrison Community Hospital said Breaux never practiced there, stating, “Dr. Breaux did have privileges here at one time, but never exercised those pivileges.”

A hearing concerning the charges against Breaux was set for April 11 and 12, 2013 in Des Moines.
