A man who ran as an independent candidate to become Iowa’s governor was the groom whose wedding balloon crashed in California.

Jonathan Narcisse challenged Terry Branstad for the top spot in Iowa’s state government in 2010.   He also served on the Des Moines school board.

Narcisse was one of a dozen people in a hot air balloon for his wedding Monday, January 7, 2013 when things suddenly went wrong.

Immediately after the couple sealed their vows with a kiss, the balloon crashed.

“It was beautiful and then we just kept trying to land and couldn’t.  And the next thing you know, we’re crashing into a fence and fell on a tree.  I said, ‘Jesus’ about four or five thousand times,” Narcisse said.

One woman suffered minor injuries in the crash.

The wedding celebration continued with dinner – on the ground.
