Water main break closes Harrison Street in Davenport

A water main break forced the closure of Harrison between Locust and 14th Streets in Davenport, Iowa.

A water main break forced the closure of Harrison between Locust and 14th Streets in Davenport, Iowa.

A contractor working on an apartment building under construction reportedly hit an abandoned water service line along Harrison between 14th and 15th streets just before 3 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2012.

Harrison was closed to all traffic.  Motorists were detoured west on Locust to Marquette, then south on Marquette to 14th Street where they could go east and return to Harrison.

Drivers were urged to avoid the area if at all possible.

Iowa American Water and an area plumbing contractor were reportedly called to the site of the break.  There was no word yet on how long the road closure might last.
