Cedar Rapids Police say they shot at a woman only after she pulled out a gun as officers approached her car.
Police said the woman ignored their attempt to stop her at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2012. Instead, they said, she continued to drive for about a mile and a half with police in pursuit.
When she eventually pulled over on a dead-end street, the woman allegedly pulled out a gun as police approached her car.
That’s when police ordered her to put down the gun. When she did not comply, police shot her.
A witness said he thinks one officer fired three shots at the car.
The woman, whose name was not yet released, was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead just after 3 a.m.
