A local woman is accused of stealing money and jewelry from residents she was supposed to be helping at a local senior living community.

Melissa Smith, 33, of Davenport, Iowa worked as a certified nursing assistant at The Fountains Senior Living Community, 3752 Thunder Ridge Road in Bettendorf.

Police said residents at The Fountains filed 14 theft reports between August 1 and November 8, 2012.  Investigators say all of those theft reports are connected to Smith.

Smith is accused of stealing money and jewelry from those residents, worth a little more than $9,000.

Smith was booked into the Scott County Jail Monday morning, December 3, 2012.  She faces nine felony counts of dependant adult abuse, five misdemeanor counts of dependant adult abuse and one felony count of second-degree theft.

Smith was held in lieu of $15,000 bond.

A spokesperson for the company that operates The Fountains said Smith’s employment there was terminated, and that “no prior history of theft was documented on her pre-employment background checks.”
