"Greasy spoon" and "organic" are two things not usually used in the same sentence.
But, one Quad Cities institution is trying a menu makeover that could make health-conscious food lovers happy.
In addition to offering more gluten-free options, Ross' is also focusing on going local.
Best known for it's "Magic Mountain" of Presidential proportions, Ross' Restaurant in Bettendorf is making a few changes.
"It's better for the local economy, better for the customer and better tasting," said Melissa Freidhof-Rodgers, manager at Ross'.
In an effort to offer healthier food and support local growers, she says they're now using local eggs, produce and bread in addition to bacon and sausage.
"I have a strong belief in using local where possible," she said. "I grew up on my father's family's farms, working every summer as a little girl. So, I have the upmost respect and admiration for hardworking farmers."
Freidhof-Rogers knows all about the benefit of healthy foods. By switching to them a while ago, she lost more than 70 lbs.
"It's all about choices. I don't eat a Magic Mountain every time I'm down here. I eat our vegan soups."
