Robbery attempt forces school lockdown in Moline

A woman was confronted face-to-face by a man armed with a knife as he allegedly tried to rob her at her home.

Police were sent to the home in the 1700 block of 53rd Street just after 10 a.m. Friday, November 30, 2012.  The woman who lives there reported she was walking to her home from her car when she was approached by a man armed with a knife.

The man allegedly demanded money from the woman.  She slammed the door on the man and called police.

The man was described as 20 to 25 years of age, 6-feet 2-inches tall with a thin build.  He wore a black hoodie with the hood up over his head and a mask over his face.  He was armed with a four- to six-inch long knife.  The man was last seen running south from the home.

Police were searching the area around the home.  Washington Elementary School, at 1550 41st Street and Franklin School on 11th Avenue C were locked down to keep staff and students indoors as a precaution.

No injuries were reported.
