A man incarcerated at the Linn County, Iowa Jail is accused of falsely claiming he knew the whereabouts of two girls missing from Evansdale, Iowa.

The Associated Press reports Shawn Gant, 40, was in the Cedar Rapids facility when he allegedly called the U.S. Attorney’s Office in August and September.  During those calls, Gant reportedly left messages claiming he knew where Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins were and saying the girls would never be found.

Gant later denied making the calls.

The calls were traced to a phone in the Linn County, Iowa Jail.  Surveillance video from inside the facility confirmed it was Gant who made the calls.
