A water main break in the Old Colona area of Colona, Illinois means water service may be off for some customers there.

The area affected includes Maple, Warren, Woodruff and Spring streets.

A letter explaining the water main break and boil order was delivered to all households involved.

A statement on the city’s website says there will be a boil water order in effect for affected residents.  The boil order could last two to three days.   City officials also planned to deliver a letter to affected residents confirming the end of the boil order when it is lifted.

Boil water orders generally mean water used for drinking, cooking and dish washing should be boiled vigorously for five minutes, then cooled as needed, before use.
