Man killed when vehicle crashes into garage of Kewanee home

A Kewanee, Illinois man was killed and two others were injured when the vehicle they were in overturned and crashed into the garage of a house.

The wreck was reported Sunday, October 14, 2012 just before 1 a.m.

Kewanee Police Chief James Dison said Gary Vancil, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.  Fred Yelm, 37 and Kenneth Armstrong, 38, were being treated for their injuries at a Peoria hospital.  All three men are Kewanee residents.  

Police said the men were in a vehicle southbound on South East Street when it failed to stop at the East Division Street intersection.  The vehicle traveled into the yard of a home at 517 East Division Street where it rolled on its side and then into the garage portion of the house.

All three men were trapped and had to be extricated from the vehicle.

The cause of the crash had not yet been released.
