Dad accused of hitting daughter; pulling gun on friends

A Swisher father is in jail tonight, accused of hitting his daughter and threatening two of her friends with a gun. 

James Morgan of Swisher, Iowa was arrested Thursday, October 11 in connection with an incident in the 1300 block of Spring Ridge Court on October 6, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

He is accused of pointing the gun at the two boys and threatening them, according to a criminal complaint. As he demanded the boys get out of their vehicle, Morgan’s daughter stepped in and asked him to calm down, authorities reported.

Morgan is accused of hitting his daughter in the head, causing a bruise and pain, according to the complaint. He then shattered the window of the boys’ vehicle with the butt of his handgun, according to the complaint.

Morgan faces charges of going armed with intent, attempted burglary, assault and use of a weapon, criminal mischief, harassment, tampering with a witness and assault causing injury while displaying a weapon.

Morgan is being held on $72,000 bond at the Johnson County jail.
