(CNN) — The “American Idol” feud between Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj seemed to be sidelined after the show’s producers gave a very loving statement about their new judges, but Stevie Nicks has a few things to get off her chest.

Speaking to The Daily, Nicks, who served as a coach to “Idol” contestants last season, gave a (very) strong reaction to Minaj’s outburst during “Idol” auditions last week.

“How dare this little girl!” Nicks said of Minaj’s profanity-laced disagreement. “If I had been Mariah, I would have walked over to Nicki and strangled her to death right there.”

The topic, The Daily notes, came up during promotion for Nicks’ documentary, “In Your Dreams,” and the respected musician didn’t stop there.

“I would have killed her in front of all those people and had to go to jail for it,” Nicks went on.

But those are words that Nicks now regrets.

“I want to apologize for my remarks about Nicki Minaj’s behavior toward Mariah Carey, which I said during a long and exhausting day of interviews,” Nicks said in a statement Wednesday. “It was very out of character for me and I deeply regret what I said. I feel very protective toward Mariah Carey, who has gone through many difficulties in her life and I spoke without thinking. I think all artist[s] should be respectful toward one another and that includes me. I am truly sorry.”
