An area marine returned home today after spending nearly seven months in Afghanistan.

Family, friends, and the Quad City Patriot Guard surprised Cpl. Jake Greenlief of Monmouth, Illinois at the Quad City International Airport in Moline on Saturday, September 29th.

While overseas, Cpl. Greenlief helped transition control back to the Afghan people. He says being home is both amazing and indescribable.

"My son - I left him when he was five months old - so coming back here, he's a little over a year, it's pretty great to see [him]," says Cpl. Greenlief. "My daughter - when I left her she couldn't even barely hold a conversation with you - and now she can count to 20. It's surreal."

Cpl. Greenlief says now that he's home, he's looking forward to relaxing and enjoying pizza.
