Quad Cities

Monday marks the start of the Student Hunger Drive, an event that collects food for needy families in the area.

High schools compete to get the largest amount of donated canned goods.

Corporations participate also.

This year, more than 30 collected more than 30,000 lbs. of food.

At the end of the drive, in November, groups from all high schools compete in a talent show.

Bettendorf

In conjunction with the event, Bettendorf's Student Council will hold a silent auction at the last home football game, where they play Burlington, next Friday.

Also, a donation of five canned goods will be good for half-price admission to the football game in an effort to Pack the Bus.

All proceeds will go to the Student Hunger Drive and will help Bettendorf High School reach a goal of 70,000 lbs.
