The Lingerie Football League says it fired some crews now serving as replacement officials for the NFL.
At least that’s what the LFL has posted on its official Facebook page.
Ten teams “made up of the countries (sic) hottest and most athletic women” play seven-on-seven tackle football in the LFL.
LFL Commissioner Mitchell Mortaza’s statement on the league’s Facebook page said they “felt it was only fair that NFL fans knew the truth as to who are officiating these games.”
And according to Mortaza, that includes officials fired for incompetent officiating from the LFL.
“Because of the LFL’s perception it is that much more critical for us to hire officiating crews that are competent, not only for the credibility of our game but to keep our athletes safer. Due to several on-field incompetent officiating we chose to part ways with with a couple crews which apparently are now officiating in the NFL. We have a lot of respect for our officials but we felt the officiating was not in line with our expectations,” the LFL statement said.
Mortaza did not specify which former LFL crews are now serving as replacement officials in NFL games or whether any of those crews were officiating the Seahawks-Packers game that was decided with a controversial end zone call in the last seconds of the game.
Replacement officials awarded a game-winning touchdown to the Seattle Seahawks in Monday night’s game on what appeared to be a jump ball between M.D. Jennings and Golden Tate.
Replacement officials have made the calls at all NFL games so far this season after the officials were locked out by the league in June due to a labor dispute over pay, retirement and operational issues.
