The Waste Commission of Scott County is hosting their 7th Annual Operation Medicine Cabinet. Residents can drop off any thing from old or extra medication to dangerous mercury thermometers, all for free disposal.

The proper disposal of medicine is very important in reducing the risk of accidental poisoning, mis-medication and drug abuse. It also poses a risk on the environment.

The event offers proper disposal of medicine, medical sharps such as needles and syringes and mercury containing items. You can also have medical documents shredded for free.

The event goes from Thursday, September 20 to Saturday, September 22 at 9am to 1pm. Drop off stations are:
Medic EMS Facility in Eldridge -Thursday, September 20
Surrey Heights Fire Station in Bettendorf - Friday, September 21
Scott County Area Recycling Center in Davenport - Saturday, September 22

The event will also be accepting old medical equipment and supplies such as canes, crutches, wheelchairs and unopened package supplies. They will then be donating those items to the Habitat for Humanity Restore. They will be sold in their new health and home division.
