The painting project that closes lanes of the Interstate 74 Bridge over the Mississippi River is reportedly a month behind schedule.
The Dispatch-Argus website reported the Iowa Department of Transportation did not yet have an explanation for the delay from the Florida contractor in charge of the project.
Tarpon Industrial, Inc., could face penalties if the project is not completed this year as scheduled.
The painting project is necessary to prevent rust and corrosion problems on the bridge. The main cable and suspension span are being painted at a cost of about $10 million.
