A statement from Western Illinois University says the person who filed a report of sexual assault has recanted that report.

University officials August 27 they were investigating a reported sexual assault that allegedly happened Sunday morning, August 26, 2012 on the lawn of Sherman Hall along Adams Street in Macomb, Illinois.  

Students were advised to take extra precautions to protect themselves.  Reminders were also published about the availability of Student Patrol escorts and emergency call boxes on campus.

The university issued an update Thursday, August 30, 2012, that said, “The individual who filed the report of sexual assault on the Western Illinois University campus has recanted the initial statement.  The investigation is closed.”
