Fire damages Rock Island duplex

Construction crews working on a Rock Island street were the first to report a duplex fire there Friday morning, August 24, 2012.

The crew working in the area of the 700 block of 24th Street spotted smoke coming from the second-story of a two-story duplex and called 911 just before 11 a.m.

Heavy smoke was showing from the home when firefighters arrived.  Neighbors said no one was at home when the fire happened.

The fire was primarily confined to the attic. 

No injuries were reported.
