A Savanna, Illinois teen died when the ATV he was driving collided with a pickup truck in Carroll County, Illinois.
Police said they were sent to the crash just before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 15, 2012.
Nicholas Swift, 18, was reportedly driving an ATV eastbound on Camp Creek Road when he collided head-on with a westbound pickup truck two miles west of Zion Road. The surface of Camp Creek Road is gravel where the wreck happened.
“The driver of the truck attempted to avoid a collision with the ATV by braking and maneuvering off the roadway onto the shoulder. Despite those attempts the ATV struck the driver’s side front end of the pickup truck,” said a statement from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department.
Police said an ambulance took Swift to a landing zone so he could be airlifted to a hospital, but Swift succumbed to his injuries before he got to the helicopter.
The driver of the truck, a 22-year-old man from Hanover, and his passenger, an 18-year-old man from Elizabeth, were not injured.
Online records show Swift graduated from West Carroll High School in May 2012.
