A Bettendorf man has been acquitted on all charges in connection with Iowa’s film tax credit scandal.
Thirty-eight-year-old Chad Witter was the accountant for a production company that was accused of scamming the state out of millions by falsely inflating production costs and collecting state tax credits based on those costs.
A Polk County jury found Witter not guilty on all five felony counts. He had been charged with two counts of first degree fraud, two counts of first degree theft, and one count of ongoing criminal conduct.
The owner of the company Witter worked for, Dennis Brouse, was found guilty of fraudulent practice in March. He collected more than $9 million in Iowa tax credits while filming “Saddle Up with Dennis Brouse” in Iowa. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Witter is the last of 10 people to be charged following the state’s tax credit scandal. The program was shut down in 2009 after an audit discovered fraud.
