Police said their recent searches on a small island in the Rock River revealed additional leads they are pursuing in the 1996 disappearance of Trudy Appleby.

Trudy was 11 years old when she disappeared from her home August 21, 1996.  She was last seen getting into a silver or gray vehicle along with a man in his twenties.  The man had brown curly hair.

Police said they have followed hundreds of leads in the case, and that a recent review of the case revealed a new lead.  That led investigators to use heavy equipment to search an island in the Rock River near Colona, Illinois.

“The operation on the small Rock River Island near Colona was productive and additional leads are now being pursued,” said Crime Stoppers spokesman Detective Scott Williams.

Anyone with information about Trudy’s disappearance is asked to contact Moline Police at (309) 797-0401 or leave your tip anonymously with Crime Stoppers of the Quad Cities at (309) 762-9500.

A privately-established Facebook page was set up to help gather information and leads in the case.  It contains photos of Trudy and images of what she might look like as her age progresses.  It’s at this link:  http://www.facebook.com/pages/Missing-Trudy-Appleby/125842640824074
