Child hit by car on first day of school

A child pedestrian was hit by a car about a block and a half from a Rock Island elementary school.

The wreck was reported just after 3 p.m., minutes after students were dismissed for the day at Rock Island Academy, 930 14th Street in Rock Island.

The wreck happened about a block and a half from the school, at 11th Street and 11th Avenue.

Unconfirmed early reports indicated the child was 12 years old. 

The car’s windshield was shattered. 

Police on the scene said the child’s injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.   Police were interviewing the woman who drove the car involved in the wreck.
