Ag in the AM: Iowa Farmers See Worsening Conditions

Just under one-half of iowa`s pasture and range land is rated in poor to very poor condition

DES MOINES, Iowa - The U.S. Agriculture Department says conditions have declined significantly on area farms after last week's scorching hot week.

88-percent of Iowa farmers now say their top soil moisture is poor or very poor. That's the highest amount we've seen in quite some time.

Just under one-half of iowa`s pasture and range land (48%) is rated in poor to very poor condition.

The continued drought is leaving its mark on the corn crop.

Less than half of Iowa farmers say their corn (46%) and their soybean crops (48%) are in good to excellent condition right now.

Almost two thirds (62%) of the Iowa crop is now tasseling.
