Roads will be closed Thursday evenings when training runs for the 2012 Bix7 race begin Thursday, June 21.

The road closures are expected to be in place for about three hours, from 5 to 8 p.m., for four consecutive Thursdays before the race.

Traffic already detoured from westbound River Drive will have an extra challenge.  Police say motorists should avoid the detour that uses Bridge Avenue to Locust on Thursdays during the training runs.

Only motorists who live inside the course route will be allowed access to Bridge Avenue off River Drive.

All other traffic will be turned back to Bettendorf to use the marked detour route on Old Kimberly Road north to Locust Street, and then Locust Street west to Harrison Street where you can continue south into the area around the race route.

The weekly practice runs are called Bix at 6 because they start at 6 p.m.  The practice runs help athletes prepare for the Bix7 race, which happens July 28 at 8 a.m.
