The Iowa Department of Transportation is adding a new feature to its 511 travel information program.

Travelers used to have to access the information on weather-related road conditions, road closures, and other travel-related issues by calling 511 or checking out

A new feature of the program will now let travelers sign up to get e-mails and text messages on the go. Information about traffic accidents and road closures on pre-selected highway routes will be sent straight to travelers’ phones.

The service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. To sign up click here.
