Soon billboards won't be the only place drivers will see advertisements on Iowa highways. The Iowa Department of Transportation is looking to sell corporate sponsorships for the state's 40 rest stops.

The DOT says sponsorships present a good opportunity to promote local companies and tourist attractions.

The plan is to open bidding later this summer. Companies and organizations will have the chance to bid for ad placement at the rest stops, from small ads to naming the rest stop.

The DOT isn't sure how much money it could make on the deal.

The rest stops cost about 3 million dollars to keep running each year. The sponsorships will offset those costs.
